How Daily Events Can Teach Us Theology

The Game of Theology

Buy yourself a package of 3 x 5 cards and stick a few in your pocket to be available throughout the day. You are going to play the theological identification game. There is no place where your theology is not alive, but we need to look for it.

Name the Doctrine

As you move throughout your daily routine, let the following question constantly hover in the background: “How does this experience raise a theological question for me.” For example, you stop by a Starbucks for an expensive cup of coffee. How does this raise questions of stewardship for you? On the other hand, you hear on the radio about another example of the corruption of a government official. What does this say about the doctrine of the depravity of humanity? Then a total stranger performs a gracious act. What does this say about your understanding of grace? Each time make a brief note on your note card. The challenge is to see how many doctrines and theological truths you can identify throughout your day (or week).

Play it with a friend

To increase your enjoyment, share the idea with a colleague and agree to meet a few days later for lunch. See who has found the most theological connections in their daily life.

Benefits
