HEALTHY CONVERSATIONS ABOUT DIFFICULT ISSUES

IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH

Studies have repeatedly demonstrated that two major contributors to improved health are being social and doing nice things for others. It is sort of a win-win behavior. You interact with others, they enjoy it, you enjoy it, and the result is you are healthier. It gets better. Most of us have an innate spark of generosity within us. Sometimes it has been buried pretty deep because of some painful experiences, but it is still there. So, when you act with kindness and generosity towards another person or group, they benefit but so do you. You are healthier for those actions and the world is a better place.

THE PRESBYTERIAN WRITERS GUILD HEALTH CLINIC

Breaking through Ideology

The problem with our ideological splits today is that we have lost the capacity to listen to each other with any anticipation that we might learn from the other person.

Out of a deep compassion for all writers but especially those who have a spiritual inclination, the Presbyterian Writers Guild wants to offer you a prescription that can improve your health. They offer you the opportunity, indeed the enticing invitation to share some parable-like stories that will probe some of the difficult issues of church and society but in a form that will entertain and stimulate deeper thoughts.

Fifteen writers from Thirteen States

Fifteen writers from all across the country accepted the invitation to participate in an online challenge to write a short story (4,000 words) that would challenge readers to reflect deeply on issues that confront our church and society. The result is a The Progressive Feast in Parabolic Story that is available on Amazon.

This book contains fifteen short stories exploring how out faith interacts with significant issues in both our churches and our society. You are encouraged to gather a group of friends in church, home, or other gathering place and make use of these stories to stimulate deeper discussion about your own journeys of faith.

The book seeks to encourage an alternative to divisive debate.  Included is a guide for a group to develop their own parables to deepen their understanding of their faith with significant issues that confront us in society. In the process, we can contribute to reconciliation in the church and society.

BONUS

In addition, the Guild offers a bonus, or perhaps we should say the dessert in this book.  After your group has enjoyed the pleasure of discussing these fifteen stories, the book offers you a guide that can enable the members of your group to participate in building their own parables that probe the issues of their lives.

IMAGINE HAVING FUN, BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS, AND OFFERING HEALING TO THE WORLD ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
